BL Harbert is a large, multinational organization with projects in many different countries. They needed a internal mobile application that would serve as a directory of employees and projects, as well as a place where they could share valuable articles and information within the company.
In this project, I played the role of product designer. I worked in the ideation session to help determine exactly what featured needed to be included in an MVP release, created wireframes to illustrate the user flow and what items/interactions would appear on each screen, and designed high fidelity designs to attach to JIRA tickets for the developers as they built the product. I also assisted the developers by repeatedly reviewing the in progress build, highlighting any inconsistency from the Figma designs until release.
After an initial workshop session identifying what features would be most valuable for their MVP product, it was time to wireframe up some ideas to develop a logical application flow and feel. Once I had created the first iteration of wires, I presented them to stakeholders, asking for feedback and thoughts. The wireframes for the entire MVP product were completed in 2 rounds, with a happy and excited client.
I embarked on creating a style guide for the app so the designs would be consistent, and the developers would have a source of truth as they built. This styleguide was built from scratch in Figma, making use of components, variants and symbols that could be used and swapped out quickly as the designs came to life. A font was provided from the client, and the rest of the style guide was built after considering the current look and feel of their branded material.
In the previous year we had built a full blown responsive intranet for BL Harbert. However, in building the native application they wanted it to have a distinct look and feel. The goal was to deliver a clean, simple and effective design that was easy to navigate and easy to understand. Through the use of simple animations, micro interactions and clear navigation patterns, the designs were effective and the build was a polished MVP product that was accepted positively from the client.
This project was a complete success. The client was incredibly happy with what we delivered, and came back for a version 2 as well!
