Introduction

Marathon Electrical had identified an area of their business that could use enhancement - finding quality contract & freelance electricians. We held discovery sessions with them and quickly identified that the best route forward would be a custom application accompanied by a user management web application for administrators.

The Team Overview

Designer x1 (Me)
Project Manager x1
Developers x3

My Role

In this role I worked as a product designer with a product manager and 3 developers. I was tasked with reading stories in JIRA and working with the team closely to ensure there were always designs for the developers to build. I was also tasked with presenting my designs to our stakeholders and getting approval before moving forward. I designed both the mobile application and the web based application, including a custom design system, development ready high fidelity designs, and an interactive prototype.

Problem

Marathon Electrical is a major electrical company in the southeast United States. They discovered that there was a large population of electricians that did not belong to any specific company, but were skilled and ready to work. There was currently no marketplace for these skilled workers to list themselves, nor a space for companies to list open jobs in this space. Marathon wanted to figure out an effective and streamlined way to connect skilled workers to new projects.

Solution

In order to solve this problem, we delivered a custom software solution that was super easy to use, able to be built quickly, and be a beautiful application that grabbed users attention to important pieces. We delivered a fantastic MVP product that had all of the essential features. The response was fantastic, and reviews on the app store include statements describing how easy it is to use, and how streamlined it feels. The stakeholders left with a sense of pride, excided to share the app with the world.

Conclusion

As I finished this project, the complete excitement from the client and their desire to start work on version 2.0 was such a rewarding feeling. The designs accounted for future version needs like being ready for the multilingual job field. When you do everything you can to deliver excellence, it is a rewarding experience.
